Corny, perhaps, but I love it:
“Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air--explode softly --and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth--boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either--not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.” -Robert Fulghum
How about we all buy a box of crayons today (you SO deserve 64 colors and don't let anyone tell you different), or find the one we have hidden deep in the recesses of the place we call home, draw a 3" square on a piece of paper, color it, perhaps even post it. What color is today? Tomorrow? We should be corny more often, perhaps. We should certainly use crayons more often.

My daughter and I color virtually every day. She prefers markers, but I prefer crayons. Only Crayola will do for me, none of that Rose Art junk.... but that's the teacher in me, too.

At the age of 51, I always keep a huge box of crayons close by. Coloring helps me de-stress and relax. I love all of the colors and the smell of a new box of crayons. Coloring allows me to be creative and to feel artistic. The world would be a better place if we could all allow the child within
out to play more often.

I remember when my kids were younger, they would color their days in their journals. I would join them if the urge to color was greater than the urge to write. I will definitely buy me some crayons on my way home tonight. I haven't colored in a very long time.

Although everyone our age remembers the thrill we felt upon receiving our first 64-box (mine was revealed under Xmas wrapping paper...not that I remember it vividly or anything...or how I wouldn't let my little brother, god forbid!, TOUCH it)...I have such a lovely memory of my first little box of 8. Although surely we colored like fools in kindergarten (and probably at home before that), I vividly recall lifting the lid on my 1st grade desk at my tiny Catholic school and seeing that brand-new pack of 8 just sitting there so perfect and fresh. A couple of years ago, the principal at my school attended some training where they were given an 8-pack. Being the left-brain sort that she is, hers remained unused. When she returned (for some reason), she handed that 8-pack to me and said she thought I might want it. It sits in one of my desk drawers...and whenever I open that drawer and see it, I'm reminded of the possibilities that lie within those little magic wands of color.

I heard this quote a few years ago and at first I thought it was just cute. After a day or two I started thinking about the logistics of how to create a crayola bomb on a much smaller scale. If you go to my website and click on operation smile I have a pdf file in the making which details some of the technical aspects of doing such things. Perhaps if I get enough accurate information the muthbusters or some college physics class would do it?
