Honor the difficulty

AshevilleAsheville is my home. My husband and I are raising two daughters here. I want them to grow up in a richly diverse and inclusive community.

My vision is for Asheville to be a model community for diversity and inclusion.

Let's start a constructive dialogue about difference that will help us get there. As ABC News correspondent Michel Martin said at Asheville's 2005 MLK Prayer Breakfast (15 Jan 2005):

  • Let's challenge ourselves to reclaim King's vision
  • Let's not pretend that it's easy when we know that it's hard
  • Let's honor the difficulty of these issues by acknowledging how hard it is.

And let's get started.

I created this space as a place to gather useful information, tools and resources for use by people in Asheville and Western North Carolina (and other communities) to help achieve that vision. I hope it's helpful.

Please send news items, announcements, and other information related to diversity and inclusion in our community for inclusion in this website.

There is no way that Ashville be allowed to turn into a progressive...San Francisco like town. No way no how...and I will do anything I can to stop the Californication of MY community.

Harry - thanks for your comment - and for visiting Inclusive Asheville. Given your viewpoint, I'm not sure if this site will be of ongoing interest to you, but you are welcome to visit. I don't know what you mean by "San Francisco like town," actually, but in my experience, those kinds of blanket statements about a place (or a people) are more harmful than useful.
